Important points to keep in mind while tagging an animal ear
- Keep the tags as clean as possible and use any antiseptic gel on the tip of the male tag before application.
- Ensure that the applicator you are using is germ-free by cleaning it properly and is the correct applicator for the type of ear tag being used.
- JEnsure that both male and female parts of the tag are fixed correctly in the applicator.
- Check the point of the male tag is in the centre of the female by gently squeezing together.
- Make sure both parts of the tag are fully locked together before disengaging the applicator.
- Make sure you do this in a peaceful area to avoid any hassle and above all try to be patient while applying.
Operating instructions for plastic tag applicators
For Cattle Tags

First keep the applicator in open position, see Figure No. 1.
Hold the female tag in reverse position such that number and collar remain downward. Now lift the clip by pressing it from the bottom side as shown in Figure No. 2. Put the bigger tag into the open portion of the clip as shown. The clip will hold the tags.
Now insert the pin fixed into upper jaw of the applicator into the hole given in the smaller male tag.
For Sheep Tags
Lift the clip by pressing it from the bottom side as shown in Figure No.1. Put the female portion of the tag (tag with a hole) into the clip putting the collar down.
Now insert the pin fixed into upper jaw of the applicator, into the hole given in the male portion (pointed tip portion).
Now the position of both the tags is perfect and the applicator is ready for tagging as shown in Figure No. 1. Now bring the applicator near to the ear of the animal and the moment the ear of the animal comes in between the jaws, press the applicator forcefully. After tagging pull the applicator and the will be fixed in the ear.
